In a very Daisy Buchanan fashion, I donned a bright polka dot headscarf to brighten up a fairly simple outfit.  5-Button, high-waisted shorts and a natural colored crop top?  Slumming it!  Add in a pair of gold polka dot Kate Spade Keds and a headscarf?  Better.  And of course, always that pop of color on the lips.  Sporty, casual, but still alludes to another time...

Flying High(waisted)

I told you I loved high-waisted bottoms.  Stretchy, soft, and just high enough, these Urban outfitters jeans are a staple for any closet.  Perfect for those days that you just want to throw on your favorite old blues, the extra few inches can give you that classier edge.  Also, what could be more LA than a sleeveless turtleneck?!  Born and bred on the East Coast, I love the simplicity of a turtleneck... but not in 75 degrees!  Both of these garments are simple and hug your curves (especially if you don't have many) and I promise you will see both of these again in many ensembles!

Riding Knee High

Out of the thousands of books I've read, there have been two that have resonated deeply and distinctly with me: Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen and The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.  Though approximately 150 years apart, I find myself relating to both Elizabeth Bennet and Esther Greenwood in ways that I never thought possible.  Reading has always been my greatest solace; above acting, singing, and even shopping.  So on this cloudy, drizzling Monday, the perfect way to relax is with a good cup of coffee, and a book.  (I am personally reading The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly.)  In that academic vain, I dressed in every part the collegiate school-girl today.  I wore one of my absolute favorite winter colors (burgundy) and a caramel, corduroy skirt.  In order to avoid one color scheme, I added a pop of forest green in my bootie heels, which also complimented my matching burgundy socks/turtleneck.  Though probably not visible in these photos, I am wearing a leather book necklace that also happens to match my shoes... I told you I love to match.

Welcome to the 50's!

"She's always wearing, like, a 1950's bathing suit."  

That should honestly be engraved on my future tombstone.  In a true Southern Californian response to the East Coast's Blizzard Warnings, we headed to the beach!  Don't worry, we wore sunscreen.  In my opinion, there is nothing more flattering, comfortable, and classic than a high-waisted bikini.  Regardless of my obvious obsession with all vintage clothing, I found this adorable swimsuit at American Apparel and actually mismatched it.  I loved the contrast of an all-white top (especially if you're tan) and the paisley bottoms.  My cover-up also happens to have the exact same blue in its flower, which, if you're matchy like me, is all the better.  If you are also going for the 1950's aesthetic, a matching twisty headband is the cherry on top.
